Bottom line is that in normal situations, installing the OEM AHCI driver and flipping the setting in BIOS should be all that one needs to do. A black screen and beeping doesn't quite sound like the same problem I was describing, but it is similar. I have not had a chance to test it yet. amin This worked perfectly. However, in your case you were able to install the AHCI driver while in IDE mode, and few reboots later you are running AHCI drivers in AHCI mode.
